Some cuts in the show, most tragically TOO, but this a fantastic aud (of one of the best shows of '72 of course)

Lol, just realized the thread title could be misleading to some. Oh well.

Clearly the Dead at the peak of their powers.
Fall '72 is completely where it's at. Keith's fully integrated with a year of baptism-by-fire under his belt. What would become their post-Pig sound is fully crafted and on display here.
If consecutive nights in May of '77 (21 & 22) can be put out as part of two separate releases, this should not stay on the shelf just 'cause the night before was DP11.
TOO is superior to the 9/17 Baltimore show imo and the Bobbie McGee that's delightfully plopped in the middle of it might be their best version. Jerry's solo and fills are so exquisite- it's a stand alone in terms of quality again imo.

Always wondered who's blowing the whistle at the start of GSET, M&MU, etc. Weir?

bobby D, kinda sounds like a board, any well performed songs that you would recommend checking out? The recording sounds 3rd or 4th generational with some phasey processing issues, perhaps Dolby encode/decode or worse yet, DBX!

Oh well, i'll give it a spin and start with the China -> Rider > Playin

Yea, I was also thinking that it sounds like a board. Haven't heard any other auds like that from the early '70s, other than 8/6/71. It also isn't available for download, like a board.

You'll give it a spin? Are you unfamiliar with this show? It's one of the strongest shows of fall '72. Only topped by 8/27 and 9/21 imo. One of the best damn shows I've ever heard actually. It gets 99 points dude! Bob's rhythm playing is top notch, as is everyone else's. Very nice to hear Bob this high in the mix. It's probably the nicest tone he ever had too.

Here's my favorite part (converted to dark.starz format):

Tennessee Jed>China Cat>IKYR>PITB>GSET>Brokedown Palace>He's Gone>TOO>Wharf Rat>NFA>GDTRFB>NFA

PITB and TOO are particularly amazing.

Plenty of good stuff from 1972, i'm partial to Europe, August BCT and a couple of the November performances. Yes, i have both DP 11 09/27/72 and DP 36 09/21/72 but seldom listen to either show beginning to end, drippy performances indeed, i'll give this one another listen.

Nice three nite run at The Stanley Theatre in Jersey City that I was fortunate to attend. All three shows are excellent-9/27/72 is D.P. 11 and I believe the D.S.>Cumberland is the one and only time played. Sept. 72, hard to beat!

+1 on that little sequence Bill! Truly one of the all time combos the boys ever played. Love me some Fall '72...

Hey Jeff, Are you by any chance from Queens? Perhaps a Bayside High School graduate?
